Patt Nelson
As a self-motivated watercolor artist, I began exploring watercolor during cancer recovery in 2002. I am a founding member of C.A.T. (Creating Art Together) which is our local Spicer, New London and Willmar art group. We have grown from 4 women in 2006 to 55 members in 2019. We began meeting in our homes, but we now meet weekly at Peace Lutheran Church in New London each Wednesday at 9 A.M. We welcome inquires.
I am a member of the Brush & Palette Club of Alexandria, MN, since 2008. One of my earliest teachers was Karlyn Holman of Washburn Wisconsin when she came to the Brush & Palette Club. I am indebted to the art professionals who come to teach in our surrounding rural areas. I am also a member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society.
Artistic Goals: I am striving to accomplish my finest results in artistic expression. I work toward an impressionistic portrayal in my work leaning toward abstract as i concentrate on overall design, shape, value and color. I want to create art that leaves room for the viewer’s imagination and interpretation of the details so as to enhance their enjoyment. I am working on building a body of work of gallery quality ready for exhibit. I enjoy the camaraderie of fellow artist and friends.
Personal Goals: I’m having the time of my life during this stage of life. After the results of many inquiries visiting my summer studio in my converted barn building during our local Studio Hop in 2012, I began an art club titled W.W.W. (Wednesday Watercolor Wanna-Bees) to reach out to homeschoolers and local beginners in watercolor expression. In the summer we meet in the barn. A recent visit with Leslie M. Valiant, administrator of the city of Spicer, resulted in class space for this group in their newly remolded senior citizens/city office building. I’ve served on the Willmar Area Art Council board which gave me another opportunity to impact artists of all mediums in our area.
Hobbies and Interests: It is my delight to entertain friends and frequently host classes that are open to the public given by art professionals such as: Stephen Henning, Raleigh Kinney, Katia Andreeva, in mixed media here at my barn studio and garden. I have also participated in our local ‘Studio Hop’. Also, I am a member of the Brush & Palette Club of Alexandria MN. You can access it here: https://www.brushandpaletteclub3ofalexandriamn.com/
